Canton – Ruth Ellen Clark Cooper, age 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home where she had been a resident for 11 years.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late, Paul B. and Aurelia Devlin Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Buddy" Cooper, who died in 1985 and a brother, Paul Clark. Ruth Ellen worked at Dick Schulman's of Canton for 15 years. She was a member of Canton First Baptist Church, a former Sunday school teacher in the youth department and of the Naomi Sunday school class.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hardin and her husband, Tommy and Linda Hyatt and her husband, Steve; one brother, Joe Clark and his wife Dale; three sisters-in-law, Louise and Madge Cooper and Virginia Clark; two grandchildren Brent Hardin and his wife Jaime and Shanna Golden and her husband, Brent; four great-grandchildren, Cooper and Benjamin Hardin, and Lucas and Hallie Golden; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
