Waynesville, George Michael Sawyer, age 20, of Calhoun Road, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 28, 2010.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Rena Carpenter and paternal grandfather, John Dale Sawyer.
George enjoyed cooking, gardening and swimming and was formerly employed by J Arthur's Restaurant in Maggie Valley. He was a free spirit who would always put others before himself. He was a good son, brother and friend.
He is survived by his parents, Michael Sawyer and his wife Carolyn of Waynesville, one sister, Caroline Michelle Sawyer of Waynesville, paternal grandmother, Annette Sawyer of Canton; one aunt, Lisa Phillips and her husband, Darrell, of Bryson City; one uncle, Jeff Sawyer and his wife, Julie, of Dallas/ Ft. Worth; one great-aunt, Juanita Bryson, of Waynesville; cousins, Adam Smith, Audrey Sawyer, Hayden Sawyer and Juliette Sawyer; his dog, Johnny and his cat, Kitty; and good friends, Dane Burr and his wife, Marietta, and Bebe Abel, all of Waynesville.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville with Reverend John Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
